Corcovado, South Pacific Natural Adventure
The south pacific of Costa Rica is beautiful and still unspoiled nature. Wildlife is in abundance! To enjoy this wild area there are a few important things to know :
Getting to Corcovado is difficult. The road is not in good shape and it will take about 9 hours from San Jose, by 4x4 .The most recommended way is by plane. There are 2 local companies that will take you there, SANSA and NATURE AIR;
The price is approx. $189 round trip.
If you decide to visit this part of Costa Rica, be ready for areas with no electricity or if the area does have power it may be turned off by 9:00 pm.
- Lots of humidity and heat, this is the rain forest. There is no air-conditioning found here.
- Lots of hiking in the jungle .You can expect daily trips of 4 up to 9 hours walking. Being in very good physical condition is important. However the wildlife is all over and you will be able to see plenty of it, from the terrace of your room.
- Not many facilities. Some places have no hot water....or no water at all…
- But don’t let these conditions discourage! A visit to south pacific area of Corcovado is a real nature immersion. Fantastic!
One of the most accessible areas to admire wildlife, from Puerto Jimenez, is Matapalo. You can take a half day hiking tour, with private guide and good chances to spot monkeys, macaws, parrots, sloth’s, and much more
All lodges are unique because they have been built from the resources the jungle itself provides. Very tropical and natural, mixed with the green of the forest. Most lodges provide 3 meals per day included in the price.

Hotel Jinetes de Osa
It needs to be said first and foremost that a trip to Drake Bay isn't just a journey in miles, but a journey backward in time. Dozens of square miles of lush green tropical rain forest blanket the area. With only about 300 inhabitants, including children, horses and dogs there is plenty of room to stretch your legs. Because the one roads leading into the north of the Osa Peninsula is impassable most of the year, automobiles and trucks are splendidly scarce in Drake Bay. Similarly, there is no bus line or train station. There is only one tiny store (called a "pulperia") that receives its merchandise the same way everyone in Drake Bay receives virtually everything -- by boat.
The Jinetes (pronounced "hinetes") de Osa naturally fits into the life of Drake Bay, as if it were a part of the landscape. The resort consists of three buildings located on the beach and twenty acres of rain forest. Currently, the resort has 9 rooms in two of the three buildings and a dining room and kitchen in the third. The rooms are simple, comfortable and clean. At night, the fresh tropical breeze carries the sound of the ocean into your room; a most effective cure for stress based insomnia.
Fresh baked bread, fresh fish from the local fishermen, and wonderfully ripe local fruits, supplement the tropical Costa Rican dishes served in the dining room. It just may be the clean air, the exercise, or the fact that you just picked the juiciest mango on a hike around the bay, but food simply tastes better on the Osa Peninsula.
